About Flamingo Psychology

We strive to help you weather the hard times and grow stronger from them

Flamingo Psychology is led by Dr Rebecca Underwood, a Clinical Psychologist with a Doctorate from Oxford University. She has worked in a range of settings including adult and child mental health settings, general hospitals and learning disability services.

She has worked in community and inpatient environments, supervising other team members and working with patients and other health professionals to provide high quality care.

Dr Underwood is passionate about ensuring that therapy is adapted to the needs of the individual, is delivered in an accessible manner and considers intersectional and cultural differences such as race, gender, sexuality, religion and class. She appreciates that starting therapy can be very daunting and aims to provide a personal and welcoming environment to explore concerns in. She has particular interests in neurodiversity, body image, anxiety and adapting to stressful life circumstances.

Outside of work she enjoys crafts, martial arts, seeing friends and spending time in nature.

Why are we called Flamingo Psychology?

It may seem like an unusual choice of namesake, however despite their appearance, flamingo's are very adaptable birds. They have adapted to lay their eggs and nest in the salt flats of Africa where the pH of the water is incredibly harmful to other animals and get their distinctive colouring through a food source (cyanobacteria) which is toxic to most other animals.

We appreciate that coming to therapy and working on your difficulties is something that requires courage and aim to adapt our sessions to support you to overcome the challenges you face. It was important to us for our name to reflect the courage and uniqueness of our clients- so Flamingo Psychology was hatched!
